Eyewitness (1981) is quite the piece, really. It has this gritty, moody vibe typical of early 80s thrillers, set against the backdrop of New York City. Daryll Deever, played by the often underrated, brings a unique perspective as a custodian drawn into the chaos of a murder investigation. The film's atmosphere is charged, almost suffocating at times, with that classic tension that keeps you on the edge. The pacing feels deliberate, building suspense in a way that’s almost hypnotic. You can see the practical effects doing a lot of the heavy lifting without flashy gimmicks. What I find distinctive is how it explores the nuances of perception and truth through Daryll’s eyes, making you question who’s really an eyewitness to the events unfolding.
Gritty NYC setting enhances the tension.Strong character-driven narrative.Subtle exploration of truth and perception.
