Fahrenheit 451 is a curious blend of Truffaut's French New Wave sensibilities and a cautionary tale about censorship. The film creates a bleak, oppressive atmosphere, underscored by a haunting score from Bernard Herrmann. Oskar Werner's portrayal of Montag is nuanced; you can really feel his internal conflict as he grapples with the horror of his job. The visual style is striking too, with its use of color and stark contrasts, especially in the fire sequences. Itâs not a fast-paced film, but it draws you in with its reflective dialogue and the slow unraveling of Montagâs beliefs. Quite distinct for its era, itâs a thoughtful take on Bradbury's novel that feels eerily relevant today.
