Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is a wild ride, isn't it? Gilliam’s adaptation of Thompson’s novel manages to capture that chaotic energy of the source material. The visuals are kaleidoscopic, blending practical effects with a surreal atmosphere that pulls you into Duke and Gonzo's drug-fuelled misadventures. Depp's performance is a bizarre, layered take on Duke, while Del Toro’s Gonzo adds a manic edge that keeps the film on its toes. The pacing can be jarring, but it mirrors the characters' spiraling descent into madness. It’s a film that challenges the viewer and gives a raw portrayal of excess, paranoia, and the American Dream gone awry. You either vibe with it or you don’t.
Released: May 22, 1998, in the US.Shot on location in Las Vegas and the Mojave Desert.Features a mix of practical effects and innovative cinematography.Based on Hunter S. Thompson's 1971 novel.
