Fetus is one of those indie horrors that really dives into the dark side of grief. The atmosphere is heavy, almost suffocating, as it follows this man who loses his wife and newborn in such a brutal way. You can feel the weight of his despair as he spirals into the occult, which is depicted with some interesting practical effects that have a raw edge. The pacing is pretty unsettling, building tension without relying on jump scares. Performances are intense, almost raw at times, capturing that blend of desperation and madness. It’s not polished, and that’s part of what makes it distinctive. The themes of loss and the lengths one will go to for love—or what they think is love—are really haunting.
Unconventional horror that leans on atmosphere.Interesting practical effects that add to the creepiness.Themes of grief and madness are central to the narrative.
