Final Payback has this gritty, raw feel that really captures the essence of early 2000s action flicks. Richard Grieco's portrayal of Joey Randall definitely brings this troubled ex-cop to life. The pacing is pretty relentless, and the tension builds nicely as Randall navigates a treacherous path filled with betrayal and violence. The themes of trust and vengeance are explored deeply, especially with the tragic twist of his lover's fate. Not much by way of modern CGI effects here, which I find refreshing; the practical effects add a layer of authenticity. There’s something about the film’s tone that draws you in, as it tackles darker elements of law enforcement and personal demons. John Saxon’s presence really elevates the stakes, too. It’s a bit of a hidden gem for those who appreciate the genre.
