Flora is a quirky blend of comedy and science fiction that really plays with the idea of existentialism. It kicks off with this small space crew that, well, they bomb their colonization mission. The pacing has this nice ebb and flow – it’s almost meditative in parts, which is interesting for a comedy. Adam, the main character, is so relatable with his yearning for the elusive Venus forest, that virtual paradise. There’s a charm in the practical effects too; they give the film a tangible feel that’s kind of refreshing in today’s CGI-heavy landscape. The performances aren’t over-the-top, which I appreciate. It's an odd little flick that definitely stands apart for its unique take on longing and reality.
