Frat House is a striking documentary that really digs into the gritty and often uncomfortable aspects of fraternity life. Todd Phillips, who later made a name for himself with more mainstream comedies, captures a raw and unvarnished view of this world, primarily at Muhlenberg College. The atmosphere is heavy; you can feel the tension and camaraderie, but also the darker undercurrents of hazing and peer pressure that run throughout. The pacing is pretty engaging for a doc, mixing moments of wild antics with quieter, more reflective scenes. There’s something distinct about how it showcases the rituals and brotherhood, yet doesn’t shy away from the consequences. It’s a snapshot of a subculture that’s often romanticized but revealed here in a more troubling light.
