Fright Night is one of those rare gems that balances horror and comedy quite well. You’ve got Charley Brewster, who’s your typical high schooler, but when he finds out his neighbor, Jerry, is a vampire, things take a turn. The atmosphere is a mix of suburban normalcy with a creeping dread, especially with the practical effects that hold up surprisingly well. The transformations are beautifully gruesome, and they really bring a tactile feel to the scares. Chris Sarandon’s performance as Jerry is slick and charming, making him a memorable antagonist. There’s this sense of nostalgia wrapped around it too, capturing the mid-'80s vibe. The pacing is solid, keeping you engaged without dragging on, which is key for a flick like this.
