Frightmare (1981) has this gritty, uncomfortable vibe that lingers. The pacing isn’t fast, but it builds a weird tension that creeps up on you. The practical effects, especially for the time, are pretty impressive—really adds to the unsettling atmosphere. The performances, while not always polished, have this raw quality that fits the film's unsettling nature. It's not for everyone, and the themes of family dysfunction layered with horror are a little offbeat. There's a sense of bleakness throughout that makes it distinctive compared to other slashers of the era. Definitely one that sticks with you, for better or worse.
