Fuko of Minato: Wandering Pure Heart is an interesting little drama from 1991 that follows a young girl on her journey to master martial arts while searching for her sister. It's got this episodic structure that can feel a bit disjointed at times, but it adds to the rawness of the story. The tone is a blend of hope and struggle, with Fuko's determination really shining through. Practical effects, especially in the fight scenes, give it a nice grit, and the pacing has this ebb and flow that keeps you engaged. The performances bring a sincerity that, for me, elevates the material. It’s definitely one of those films that carries an atmosphere all its own, unique in its execution.
