Gangster Lolo is a quirky little comedy from 2014 that definitely has its moments. The story revolves around a group of aging ex-cons – you know, the ones who’ve seen it all but still can’t quite shake off their past. They’re trying to go straight, but, of course, they’re met with the classic struggle of finding decent work. The pacing is a bit uneven at times, but the charm lies in their banter and budding camaraderie. There’s a sense of nostalgia for the criminal underworld they’re trying to escape, and the treasure map subplot adds an amusing twist. The performances are genuine and capture that desperation mixed with humor, which makes it distinctive in its own right.
