Geostorm is one of those disaster flicks that cranks up the tension with a mix of CGI and some surprisingly decent practical effects. Dean Devlin, who’s more known for producing, steps behind the camera, and maybe it shows a bit in pacing. The setup is fun: satellites controlling the weather go rogue, which leads to some visually impressive chaos. Gerard Butler does his thing as the lead, bringing a certain charm to the frantic pace. The themes of global cooperation and technology gone awry echo nicely, even if the execution is a bit over-the-top. Not exactly subtle, but it leans into its absurdity, making it worth a watch for those who appreciate the genre's quirks.
