Getting That Girl gives off a light, breezy vibe typical of early 2010s teen comedies. The atmosphere is a mix of high school antics and a bit of that Southern California glam. Mandy, our East Coast transplant, finds herself navigating the often absurd social hierarchies at McDermott High. It's not the most original plot, but the characters are distinct enough, with two guys vying for her affections, each representing different aspects of teenage life. The pacing has its ups and downs; some scenes drag while others pop with energy. What I find interesting is the way it subtly comments on identity and belonging amidst all the romance and humor. Definitely a film that captures a specific moment in time for teen comedies.
