Tadasu Takamine's 'God Bless America' is a bizarre blend of animation and documentary that really sticks with you. The film features this unsettling stop motion/live action loop where Takamine and his team create this huge grotesque head that looks a lot like George W. Bush. It’s got this off-kilter fervor, and the way they layer the visuals with a distorted version of 'God Bless America' adds to the weird atmosphere. The pacing is repetitive but oddly hypnotic, drawing you into this continuous commentary on American identity and politics. It’s definitely an art piece—practical effects are used in a way that makes you feel the weight of the subject matter. It’s distinctive, to say the least, and not something you see every day.
