Going Under (1998) presents a gritty slice of horror that dives into psychological terror. The film has this raw, almost claustrophobic atmosphere, especially in the first story where the tension builds as the killer intrudes upon the mundane lives of the two women. You can almost feel the dread creeping in. The practical effects are decent for its time, giving a visceral edge, but it’s the performances that really stand out; you can sense the fear in their eyes. The second story shifts tone a bit, exploring trust in relationships, which adds a layer of complexity. It’s jagged around the edges but that’s part of its charm. The pacing can feel uneven, but it captures that late '90s indie horror vibe quite well.
Strong sense of atmosphere in both stories.Interesting character dynamics, especially in the second story.Practical effects hold up fairly well for the era.
