Goodbye South, Goodbye is one of those films that captures the essence of life on the fringe, you know? It's got this slow-burning rhythm that mirrors the mundanity of its characters' petty criminal lives. Gao, the leader, along with his sidekick Flathead, and their girlfriends, Pretzel and Ling, are just coasting through a series of half-baked schemes that seem to lead nowhere. The performances are understated, almost laid-back, which really adds to the film's natural feel. The pacing feels intentional—almost like you're hanging out with them rather than just watching their story unfold. It’s a slice-of-life deal, with a tone that’s both gritty and oddly reflective, making you ponder the futility of their existence while enjoying the ride.
Interesting character dynamics with a focus on relationships. Not typical crime film; more of a character study.Atmospheric and contemplative rather than action-driven.
