Group Show is an intriguing slice of life, a documentary that immerses you in the creative worlds of Peter Sutherland’s close friends. Filmed over a couple of years in California and NYC, it has this intimate, almost voyeuristic quality. You can really feel the atmosphere of those spaces—the colors, the clutter, the energy of the artists working. Pacing is slow, but it’s deliberate, allowing you to soak in their processes and ideas. There’s a rawness to their performances, stripped of any pretense. You get the sense that each participant brings their own unique lens, making it a kaleidoscope of artistic expression. It’s not flashy or overproduced, which I think adds to its charm.
