H (2002) is a pretty grim exploration of morality and the psyche, wrapped in a mystery thriller package. The atmosphere is thick with tension; you can really feel the weight of those brutal murders targeting pregnant women. The performances by the leads, especially Kim Mi Yun, are solid—there's an emotional depth that draws you in, almost making you forget that it’s a genre flick. The pacing feels deliberate, which suits the unfolding dread quite well. It has this haunting quality, and you can't shake the feeling that Shin Hyun’s manipulations from prison make it all the more sinister. The practical effects, while not overdone, amplify the realism of the horror, which is what sets it apart in the genre.
