Halloween (1978) is a real turning point in horror. John Carpenter’s direction really nails the tension. The creeping pace pulls you in, building dread rather than relying on jump scares. Jamie Lee Curtis, in her first major role, is just perfect as the smart, resourceful Laurie Strode. The atmosphere is thick with a sense of impending doom, thanks in part to that haunting score, which Carpenter composed himself. The practical effects are noteworthy too, especially considering the budget. The masked figure of Michael Myers is just chilling—it's all in the simplicity, really. It’s not just a slasher; it’s about fear and isolation, capturing the essence of a suburban nightmare. Every time I revisit it, I pick up on something new.
