So, 'Hanako of the Toilet: Hanako vs Yosuke' is quite the intriguing little horror flick from 2016. It plays with that classic urban legend vibe but adds a twist with the exorcist angle. The pacing is decent, a real slow burn until it dives into some wild supernatural elements. Shizukune, our protagonist, is an exorcist-in-training, and her dynamic with her teacher Miyo adds a nice layer of mentorship conflict. Then you’ve got these rock band members who stumble into an abandoned school, which has that eerie, atmospheric feel you’d expect. The practical effects are surprisingly effective, giving the film a tangible horror that CGI just can't replicate. The spirit encounters have a gritty edge, making it a unique entry in the genre, especially for those who appreciate folklore-inspired scares.
Focus on the folklore elements and atmosphere.Practical effects enhance the horror experience.Interesting character dynamics between Shizukune and Miyo.
