Hatsukoi Sukecchi: Maitchingu Machiko Sensei is quite a quirky entry in the comedy genre. The film brings us back to high school nostalgia through Kenta, who’s dealing with the weight of his artistic block. It’s a nice blend of humor and a sort of melancholy. The pacing is relaxed, allowing moments of reflection as Kenta revisits his past, and that really makes the atmosphere feel authentic. There are these little side characters that pop in, each with their own quirks, adding layers without overwhelming the story. The performances, especially from Kenta's old classmates, are lively, bringing to life those shared memories that linger. It’s a charming exploration of looking back, wrapped in a comedic package, which makes it distinctive in its own right.
