Haunted School (2001) is quite the odd blend of comedy and horror, definitely not your typical ghost story. The interplay between Sun Wei and Ding Xiaoqian, two teachers who stumble upon an abandoned school, creates this mix of light-hearted moments and eerie tension. The inclusion of Guan Hui and his treasure map adds a bit of whimsy, but as they explore, the atmosphere thickens with each ghostly encounter. It has a certain charm to its practical effects that often feels nostalgic, reminding me of the low-budget thrillers of that era. The pacing, too, is uneven which some might find frustrating, but it gives the film a unique character. If you enjoy films that blur the lines of genres, this one’s a curious find.
Interesting mix of comedy and horror elements.Notable practical effects characteristic of early 2000s films.Uneven pacing adds to its distinct character.
