Hawaiian Snap is an interesting piece in the horror genre, really. It capitalizes on the idyllic backdrop of Hawaii but flips it into something unsettling. The pacing is deliberately slow, which builds tension effectively. You get this creeping sense of dread as Justin's trip spirals into darkness. The atmosphere is thick—almost suffocating at times—like the humidity of the island itself. Practical effects are used sparingly but effectively, adding a rawness to the horror without relying too much on CGI. Performances are pretty solid; Justin's isolation is palpable and really draws you in. It's not your usual slasher fare. It’s more an exploration of personal demons against a beautiful yet haunting landscape.
