Heads Up (2024) plays around with the concept of choice and consequence in a rather unique way. The film strikes a balance between comedy and fantasy, wrapped in a lighthearted atmosphere. It’s interesting how the coin serves as a narrative device, giving our anxious teen protagonist a push, but also showing that knowing the future isn’t always the answer. The pacing feels a bit uneven at times, especially in the second act, but it manages to keep you engaged. The practical effects, though not overly flashy, add a nice charm to the fantasy elements. Performances are solid, capturing the struggles of anxiety in a relatable manner. Definitely a distinctive take on coming-of-age tropes without getting too heavy.
