Heartlift is this quirky blend of comedy, drama, and romance that really captures the complexities of human relationships. You’ve got Pep Munné, this aging plastic surgeon, who finds himself in a bit of a pickle, falling for his much younger assistant, Mariana Anghileri, at a medical conference. It’s kind of charming how he invents silly excuses just to be around her. The pacing is leisurely, allowing you to really soak in the awkwardness and the nuances of his marriage to Cristina, played by María Barranco, who’s dealing with her own issues, seeing a psychiatrist. It’s a film that dives into themes of desire and midlife crises, but it doesn’t take itself too seriously. The performances are pretty solid, giving it an authentic feel, which makes it distinctive.
