Hellions has this strange, off-kilter vibe that really gets under your skin. The pacing is a bit uneven, but it adds to the tension, especially as the night drags on for our lead. The whole trick-or-treating setup creates this nostalgic yet eerie atmosphere, and the practical effects used for the trick-or-treaters give them a raw, unsettling presence that CGI just can't replicate. Performances are solid, capturing that frantic fear of a teenager trapped in a nightmare. Themes of isolation, the innocence of childhood clashing with pure malevolence, sort of linger in the background. There's something uniquely creepy about it, making it stand out in the crowded Halloween horror genre.
