Hellraiser: Inferno is an interesting detour in the franchise, directed by Scott Derrickson. The film takes a noir-ish approach, blending horror and thriller elements that give it this gritty, dark atmosphere. You have this detective, you know, wrestling with his own demons—literally and figuratively. The pacing is a bit uneven, but it adds to the disorienting experience, much like the labyrinth of the puzzle box itself. The practical effects, while not groundbreaking, have their charm and contribute to the film's grotesque aesthetic. The performances, especially by the lead, capture a sense of desperation and madness that enhances the unsettling themes of guilt and temptation. It’s not your standard slasher fare, which is what makes it distinctive within the series.
