Helplessness is an intriguing documentary that dives deep into the fraught dynamics between mother and daughter—so much tension there. It’s inspired by Dogville, but it takes its own route with audience alienation; the use of puppets adds a surreal quality, distorting the emotional resonance. The set is brutally dismantled, reflecting a kind of cynicism that permeates the whole experience. Pacing feels deliberate, almost methodical, giving viewers time to absorb the weight of the themes—loss, regret, and the complexity of familial bonds. The performances, though puppet-driven, convey a raw intensity that echoes long after the credits roll. Definitely a distinctive piece, challenging and thought-provoking.
