Hiding Out is a curious blend of action, adventure, and comedy that manages to balance its tones pretty well. The premise of a stock broker going undercover in high school is inherently rich with irony and humor. Andrew Morenski, played by Jon Cryer, brings a certain charm to his character as he navigates the teenage landscape, but there's also this underlying tension with the mob lurking in the background. The pacing has a nice rhythm; it doesn't linger too long on any one joke, keeping things moving. The film leans on practical effects for its action sequences, which gives it a grounded feel. Not every comedy pulls off such a mix of stakes and laughs, but here, it sort of works and makes for an interesting watch.
