Homefront is one of those films that kind of sneaks up on you. The pacing is deliberate, letting the tension build slowly as Phil Broker, played by Jason Statham, tries to protect his daughter from the chaos of his past. The atmosphere is gritty, a small town with a looming sense of danger, thanks to Gator Bodine, the local thug. There’s a rawness to the performances, especially from James Franco, who brings a sinister charm to his role. The action scenes are grounded, relying more on choreography than CGI, which gives them a real weight. It’s not groundbreaking, but there’s something satisfying about the way it marries family drama with a classic revenge story.
