Homejack is a peculiar blend of crime, drama, and horror that leans heavily into its unsettling atmosphere. Koshizaka does a great job building tension throughout, especially with the juxtaposition of Natsuko's seemingly mundane life against the sinister events unfolding outside her door. The pacing is deliberate, allowing the dread to seep in gradually. Practical effects enhance the grisly nature of the killings, creating a rawness that feels disturbingly real. The performances are another standout—Natsuko's internal struggle is palpable, and her interactions with her lover create a sense of impending doom. It’s a unique take on the home invasion trope, where safety and intimacy become twisted and fragile. Definitely one of those films that lingers in your mind long after the credits roll.
