Hood Rat is a wild mix of action, horror, and sci-fi, really something different in the early 2000s. Isaiah Washington gives a solid performance as Max, a guy who goes from sympathetic to downright terrifying. There's this grim atmosphere that hangs over the film, especially in the rat-infested setting, which adds to its unsettling vibe. The pacing can be a bit uneven at times, but it really ramps up in the last act when the man-eating rodents come into play. Practical effects are used here, which gives it that gritty edge, and the themes of revenge and madness are explored in a bizarre, yet engaging way. Definitely leaves an impression, for better or worse.
