So, House of Evil is one of those indie horror flicks that really leans into its atmosphere. The pacing has a nice build-up – it starts slow, almost idyllic with this young couple settling into their new countryside home. But then things get creepy, and you can feel the tension creeping in as strange events unfold. What I found distinctive is how they used practical effects instead of CGI, which adds a raw, unsettling quality to the scares. The performances are decent, nothing groundbreaking, but they sell the mounting dread well. It captures that pervasive sense of isolation, and when the darkness descends, you really feel it. It might not stand out among mainstream horror, but it has its own unsettling charm.
Indie production with a focus on practical effects.Noteworthy for its atmospheric tension and pacing.Themes of isolation and psychological dread.
