House of the Witch has this eerie, low-budget charm that makes it feel like a throwback to classic horror. The setup is simple: a group of teens, a haunted house, and a witch, but it plays with some neat themes about fear and the consequences of meddling with the unknown. The atmosphere is thick with tension, and the dim lighting does a lot to enhance the spooky vibe. The practical effects are decent for a TV movie, adding a layer of authenticity to the witch's appearance. Performances are a mixed bag, but some of the kids really sell their fear. It’s a bit predictable, but there’s something enjoyable about how it leans into its genre tropes without getting too pretentious.
