Hush of Night is an interesting exploration of isolation and the weight of one's past. Ira, our central character, feels like a ghost himself, drifting through the city until he finds an old house that promises some solace. The pacing is deliberately slow, which really lets you soak in the atmosphere of the countryside and Ira's internal struggle. The film leans heavily on practical effects to construct a sense of realism, which is refreshing compared to the CGI-heavy stuff we're used to. The performances, especially from the lead, have a rawness to them that pulls you into his despair and hope. It's this blend of melancholy and beauty that gives it a distinct place among recent dramas.
