I Can Speak is a charming mix of comedy and drama that gives you a glimpse into the life of an elderly woman who’s had her share of hardships. The pacing is quite gentle, allowing the humor to breathe amidst the serious undertones of her past. Kim Hyun-seok deftly balances these elements, making the film feel intimate without being overly sentimental. The performances are quite noteworthy, especially from the lead actress, who embodies that grumpiness with a lot of heart. It’s distinctive in how it uses language as a bridge between generations, adding depth to their relationship. You get a real sense of nostalgia woven through the narrative, with some moments that might even catch you off guard.
