I, the Jury (1982) is an interesting mix of crime and mystery, taking cues from classic noir but blending it with an 80s grit. The pacing is deliberate, allowing for some atmospheric tension, especially in the scenes where Mike Hammer digs into the seedy underbelly of the city. The performances here feel raw, with Armand Assante as Hammer bringing a ruggedness that fits the character's hard-boiled nature. The film does have some practical effects that, while not groundbreaking, add a certain charm to the action sequences. It’s not the tightest narrative, but there's a distinct feel to it—hard to pin down, yet oddly captivating for genre fans.
