I Walked with a Zombie is one of those atmospheric gems that draws you in with its eerie Caribbean setting and slow, deliberate pacing. Tourneur really captures a sense of dread and mystery that lingers long after the credits roll. The way he blends elements of voodoo with a haunting narrative about love and obsession is just fascinating. The performances are subtly powerful, especially from Frances Dee, whose portrayal of the nurse is both compassionate and conflicted. The practical effects, while not overly lavish, contribute to the unsettling vibe. It’s distinctive for its poetic approach to horror, making you question reality as much as the characters do. Definitely a film worth revisiting for its mood and themes.
