I Want You is a fascinating exploration of post-war mentality set in a small Eastern U.S. town. The film captures the tension of the early 1950s, as the Korean War looms large over the characters. Mark Robson’s direction is measured, allowing the emotional weight of each scene to settle in. Martin Greer, played by the compelling Keenan Wynn, is a WWII veteran itching to re-enlist, creating this palpable conflict with his wife Nancy, portrayed by the understated and powerful, Joan Leslie. The performances are very much grounded, really drawing you into their personal struggles. What strikes me is how the film tackles themes of duty, love, and the haunting shadows of war without veering into melodrama. Its pacing feels deliberate, giving space for reflection amidst the turmoil.
