So, 'Ilya Sobolev: Third' is quite the oddball of a comedy, you know? It juggles themes of family and childhood in a way that feels both chaotic and heartfelt. The film swings between the surreal and the mundane, touching on everything from childbirth to conversations with the audience, which is just so unique. The pacing can be a bit uneven, reflecting the unpredictability of family life, I suppose. The performances have this raw, authentic quality - you really get a sense of the characters' quirks. And then there’s the odd assortment of motifs: planes, mushrooms, avocados in odd places - it’s all very playful. It doesn't hold your hand, which is refreshing. Just a lot of quirky threads woven together without any clear destination. Quite distinct, I must say.
