In Dog's Words is a curious blend of comedy and drama set in São Paulo, in 2007. The film follows Santana, a dogcatcher who's got this easy-going demeanor, which is a nice counterpoint to the chaos of his job. The pacing feels almost languid at times, allowing the viewer to soak in the atmosphere of the city while exploring themes of violence and redemption. When Santana captures a massive dog, things take a turn with the arrival of Babyface, a sociopath ex-cop. This character adds a jagged edge to the narrative, creating tension that contrasts beautifully with Santana's laid-back style. The performances are quite engaging, and there’s a rawness to the practical effects that feels honest and grounded, making it a unique watch in its own right.
