In Marfa (2016) captures this raw, almost ethereal vibe of a small town under an expansive sky. Shot on expired film, you really feel the grain and the unpredictability of the medium, which adds a certain texture to the visuals. The pacing is deliberately languid, echoing the slow, contemplative nature of the landscape. It’s all about the atmosphere – the fading light, the cold air, and a sense of solitude that’s palpable. There's no narration, just the visuals and ambient sounds of Marfa creating an immersive experience. I find it distinct how it almost feels like a meditation on place and time, something that’s rare in today’s fast-paced documentaries. Definitely a unique take on filmic expression.
