In Person Learning is an interesting exploration of the challenges faced by students during the pandemic. Emmis, our middle school protagonist, navigates her anxieties about returning to a high school environment that feels foreign after a year of isolation. The animation style is charming but it’s the emotional realism that stands out; the characters feel authentic. Pacing is deliberate, allowing moments of introspection – you really get a sense of Emmis’s inner turmoil. The themes of resilience and adaptation resonate deeply, reflecting what many have experienced. While the director remains unknown, the film captures the zeitgeist of a generation feeling out of sync with the world. A quiet but poignant reflection on coming-of-age in unusual times.
