So, In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale, directed by Uwe Boll, is one of those flicks that straddles the line between ambitious and, well, a bit chaotic. The film follows Farmer, played by Jason Statham, as he plunges into a fantasy world filled with Krugs and the ominous Gallian. It’s a mix of medieval action and emotional stakes, what with the whole kidnapped wife and avenging a son situation. The pacing feels a bit uneven at times, which might irk some, but the practical effects used to create those Krug creatures have a certain charm. The performances are a mixed bag, but there’s a certain earnestness to it all that can be appreciated if you’re in the right mood. It's not your typical high-fantasy fare, that's for sure.
