In Traction is a curious blend of dark comedy and hospital drama. The film unfolds with Mr. Gentle, whose botched suicide attempt lands him in a hospital bed, surrounded by an unpredictable group of juvenile delinquents. The tone is oddly lighthearted despite its serious premise, creating a strange juxtaposition that defines its charm. The pacing feels a bit disjointed at times, but it adds to the chaotic atmosphere. The performances are surprisingly engaging, especially given the premise; you can't help but root for these troubled kids and their bizarre interactions with Mr. Gentle. There's a rawness to the practical effects, and while it's not polished, that only adds a layer of authenticity. Not your typical TV movie, certainly a standout of its era.
