Io sono Rosa Ricci is a gritty exploration of familial loyalty and survival. Set in the dark underbelly of 2000s Naples, it follows young Rosa, who’s snatched away from her life due to her father’s involvement in the Camorra. The film does a fantastic job of immersing you in an oppressive atmosphere, capturing the tension of confinement and the raw determination that pushes Rosa to reclaim her freedom. The pacing is tight, shifting from desolate moments of isolation to explosive bursts of action. Performances are compelling, with the lead embodying both vulnerability and defiance. What stands out is how this film doesn’t shy away from showcasing the harsh realities of crime while also hinting at the moral complexities of its characters.
