So, Jamaicaresan, from 1980, is an interesting piece. It captures a Swedish non-profit's journey through Jamaica, and you can feel the cultural exploration in every frame. The film does a solid job documenting the societal landscape of Jamaica during that era, with a very raw, unobtrusive style that really brings you into the moment. There’s something almost intimate about the way it presents its subjects and their environments, making you reflect on the contrasts between cultures. The pacing can feel slow at times, but it allows for those contemplative moments which I find quite effective. It’s one of Kristian Petri's early works, and you can see the seeds of his style already forming. Definitely a unique snapshot of a time and place.
Captivating cultural insights from the 1980s.A rare look at Jamaican society through foreign eyes.Interesting early work of Kristian Petri.
