Joint Custody (2020) plays out like a quirky family drama laced with comedy. Zuzana, who's been married for fifteen years, finds herself in a rather uncomfortable position after discovering her husband's affair. The film's tone straddles a fine line between humor and pathos, making for some interesting moments as she turns to her daughter-in-law Lenka with a rather unusual proposal about sharing custody of Jirka. The pacing has this odd ebb and flow, punctuated by sharp dialogue that keeps it engaging. The performances, especially from the leads, add a depth that nicely balances the film's lighter moments. Itâs a distinct take on relationships, not just romantic but familial too, exploring themes of trust, betrayal, and unconventional solutions.
