Judgement Day is quite an intriguing piece from 1988. The film has this eerie atmosphere that really pulls you into the dark side of human nature and the supernatural. The setting itself, a small village of Santana, feels claustrophobic and unsettling, especially with the annual rituals that unfold. Pacing is a bit uneven, but it adds to the unsettling mood. The practical effects are pretty impressive for the time, giving that raw, gritty feel that’s always more engaging than CGI. The performances are, well, they range from decent to pretty memorable, but they all serve the story well. It’s not your typical horror flick, and there’s something about the blend of folklore and existential dread that sticks with you.
