Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham is one of those sprawling family dramas that really leans into melodrama. Karan Johar's direction has this glossy, almost fairy-tale vibe that’s distinct yet grounded in familial conflict. The pacing feels leisurely at times, but it gives room for those emotional punches. The performances are solid, particularly from Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, who bring a gravitas that ties the film together. Visually, it’s quite lavish – the sets and costumes scream opulence. There’s a certain charm, especially in how it explores themes of love and social class, but it never quite feels heavy-handed. Just a mix of humor and heartaches that makes you feel a range of emotions throughout.
